An Overview of Bluetooth Fees

When qualifying a Bluetooth product you need to pay a qualification fee. The first possible fee is a Qualified Products List listing fee. This Qualified Products List is a listing fee required for each record. For Adopter level members this fee is ten thousand dollars and for Associate and Promoter level members the fee is five thousand dollars. At the time you list the device the payment will be collected through the Qualification Listing Interfaces. The fee is applied towards all PRD 2.0 product types for each record you enter onto the Qualified Products List.

The second type of fee is the Qualified Products List product change fee. Members in line with the following requirements assess this fee:

Any changes to a qualified product that does not alter the original product's ICS and does not requires the product to have an additional listing fee on the Qualified Product List.

Any changes to the qualified product does not alter the original qualified products ICS and requires a new listing fee as according to the fee structure listed below.

The following is the two parts to the fee structure:

1) The addition of a new Protocol or Profile costs thirty-three percent of the listing fee.

2) If you are adding functionality within the normal qualified product's ICS then the cost is twenty percent of the listing fee for each update that adds functionality to the product. The fee is collected once the product is listed through the Qualification Listing Interface. The fee applies to each record that needs to be entered into the Qualified Product List.

A third type of fee is a BQTF Recognition Fee. This is an annual listing fee of eight thousand dollars, which is paid to the Bluetooth SIG on the first day of each year. You can pay this fee in advance but it doesn't become effective until three months after the BQTF is listed. The BQTF can be removed from the list without notice at any time if you don't pay the fee.

The fourth type of fee is a BRTF Recognition Fee. This is a two thousand dollar annual fee that is due to the Bluetooth SIG on the first day of each year. The fee can also be paid in advance and becomes effective three months after the initial listing. As with the BQTF fee, if this fee is not paid the BQTF listing can be removed at any time without notice.

The fifth type of fee is the BQB Recognition Fee. This is a fee of one thousand two hundred dollars that must be paid to Bluetooth on the first day of each year. As with the previous two fees this one can be paid in advance and is effective three months after the initial listing is recognized. Also as with the two previous fees this fee will result in the removal of the listing without notice if the fee is not paid. However, any initial partial-year payments that are made for BQBs prior to March 1, which are recognized need to be paid on June 1 for the remaining seven months. To end a product listing there is not fee.

As you can see, Bluetooth can be quite expensive. That is why most of the people who are using it at this time are businesses. There are tons of hospitals and offices that are teaching their employees how to build better businesses with Bluetooth technology. They realize that although the fees are a little high, the great benefits employees and business owners get from Bluetooth technology is worth the fees.

You may be wondering what type of Bluetooth fees would apply to you. If you have more questions about where you fit into the Bluetooth technology, you can always contact a local dealer to ask more about the fees. You may even be surprised to know there are other options for consumers other than these fee schedules. You may be able to use Bluetooth for a monthly fee from some dealers. So instead of thinking you cannot afford Bluetooth technology, you might want to contact a dealer to talk about it before writing off your chances altogether. Chances are you will be able to afford more than you think!
