Five Things You Should Tell Your Friends About Bluetooth
The world of communication is expanding at a rapid speed with new and more efficient technologies being developed every day. Blue tooth one of such innovations in the wireless technology offers a variety of applications. This is a short-range communication technology intended to replace the conventional cable facilitated connectivity among movable or fixed devices. It is unique with the rare advantages of strength, savings in power and cost.
The new technology has become so popular that today it is able to connect any devices that make use of this technology with any other unit anywhere in the world enabled by the blue tooth within the range of its reach. Bluetooth enabled communication devices can get connected to a maximum of seven devices simultaneously coming under a single Piconet a short range and ad hoc network. Once a blue tooth enabled device enters a radio proximity it automatically gets connected to the Pico nets.
One has to be aware of the basic details of this technology before deciding on the same. They are the concept, interference, spectrum, and range and cost, the ability to handle simultaneously various devices used for data and voice transmissions like synchronizing the use of laptop, mobile and personal digit assistants are the unique advantage and characteristic of the Bluetooth technology.
The Bluetooth wireless specification offers both link layer and application layer definitions to the developers that support both data and voice applications. The version adopted in 2004 is the version2.0 plus the enhanced data rate.
This technology operates in the industrial scientific and medical band of 2.44GHz that is available and unlicensed in most of the countries, and makes use of the spread spectrum, frequency hopping, and full-duplex signal with a rate of 1600 hops per second.

The operating range of the technology depends on the devices. While class 3 radios have a range up to 3 feet, the range of class two is 30 feet. Class one is basically used for industrial purposes and has a range of 100 meters. Bluetooth technology consumes less power and is designed to switch off when not in use. The average consumption of the class two radios that is most commonly used is only 2.5mw.
Blue tooth technology is the best available short-range wireless communication technology available in the market that facilitates connectivity of mobiles, personal computers, PDAs, headsets and much more. The technology does not require installed software. This is the only proven technology in the wireless domain and the popularity of the same is gauged from the fact that on an average around 5 million units are being shipped in a week with a capacity base of 500 million units. No other testimonials are used for its robustness, low cost, clarity and efficiency in connectivity. No wonder many manufacturers are making use of this technology for their instruments to avoid clutter of wire, transfer data, or voice communication. The technology operates in 2.4 GHz and that being one of the unlicensed ISM brands no cost is involved in the use of this technology unlike in the case of GSM or CDMA technology where one has to pay for the cellular provider. The blue tooth technology involves nothing more than the cost of the device.
A wide variety of products from mobile phones to computers and office gadgets are available under this technology. The simple ad hoc system of installation and low cost and low power consumption makes this technology the favorite of many a manufacturer ever since its entry in the market in 1999. There are more than 4000 member companies in the Bluetooth special interest Group since its inception. The range and number of products is increasing manifold over the years and the installed base has already crossed 500 million units that speak volumes of the utility and success of this technology.
The technology that never compromises on the security aspects has built in security measures. As the technology makes use of the Adaptive frequency hopping interference from other operators at the same frequency is avoided and the efficiency and security is ensured. Blue tooth also maintains the security by the 128-bit encryption and personal identification Number authentication.
One needs to know the operation of this technology to appreciate the system and make good use of the same. In actual process the physical radio channel is shared by a number of devices that gets synchronized to a common clock and frequency-hoping pattern. The device that provides the synchronization is known as the master and the other devices as slaves. A piconet is a group of such synchronized devices.
