When both a shopping cart and real-time processing are present it can result in serious concerns developing. In this case there must be a great deal of compatibility between the host and the cart. It is imperative that all three parts- the shopping cart, processing method and web host work in harmony with each other.
You have to decide early on what type of ordering process you wish to have on your website. Cost is one of the first considerations when it comes to choosing a web host. Keep in mind that companies that boost "free shopping carts" have drawbacks as they are generally very tricky to configure and waste a great deal of time installing it. Your best bet is to choose a web hosting shopping cart that charges you a monthly fee. The advantages is that a person who has little if any experience with programming can still make use of it and creating an online storefront is a fairly simple and stress free procedure.
Speaking of an online storefront, when it comes to the selection of a shopping cart there are two options to choose from- taking the hosting route or the software route. When it comes to shopping cart software, first you need to download it and install it on the web server you are using. The next step is to do one of two things- either configure the shopping cart to your specifications or else choose to get a hosted shopping cart (otherwise known as an online storefront) whereby the setup time and configuration is simple and requires a minimum of time.
Not all shopping carts are exactly the same. Supported gateways are always the way to go as gateways "give shopping carts the ability to connect and securely process credit card orders in real-time." Always ensure before you decide on a shopping cart that it is adequately supported by the merchant accounts of any and all of your clients. The most reliable shopping carts will be able to process payments from the larger payment processing companies that exist online such as Paypal and Verisign.
Security must always be a top priority. Only choose an online shopping cart if it comes complete with 128-bit encryption and secure socket layer (abbreviated to SSL). Remember that as the proprietor of a storefront you have to be able to secure the bank account and credit card information of all customers.
