Podcasting Pay-Per-View

Many large search engines are beginning to see the money that Podcasting could generate for them and their clients. Instead many companies are thinking about going to a Pay-Per-View type packaging. This would allow the Search Engine to make a percent for hosting the viewing material and the producer will also make a profit. The other type of Pay-Per-View is when the producer pays the Search Engine a fee for each time someone downloads his or her Podcast. There is much controversy with this new line of interest. For those who are using Podcasting as a marketing tool, this may not be a bad idea. However, for those who like to download Podcasts that are not geared towards products or services this could break them. No one wants to spend more money today.

If you are into marketing a product or a service through Podcasting to make people come to your site and buy, this Pay-Per-View choice may not be such a bad thing. You would have already geared your Podcast toward a highly selective audience anyway so you would not be wasting any money. Once a Podcast is downloaded once, you will be connected to that client with any further Podcasts you do. Therefore, you will not have to worry about every single click on your newer Podcasts. If you are Podcasting to market a product or service you would want the larger Search Engines to know your site and rate it high so you get more business. With that said, it would not be a horrible thing if you used Podcasting Pay-Per-View for a direct market. Another alternative to avoid Pay-Per-Click all together would be to utilize free Search Engines. You would want to make sure in your Podcast that you give your Web address each time to ensure the customers know where to go.

 Quote of the Day
The web of domination has become the web of Reason itself, and this society is fatally entangled in it.
—Herbert Marcuse (1898–1979)

For those people whom Podcast just because they like to or it is a hobby, this Pay-Per-View can get really expensive. Many enthusiasts would have to stop producing video Podcasts because the cost to view them would be out of pocket. These are the people who will be hit the hardest of all. They will have to forego their hobby or pay too much money. Pay-Per-View Podcasting will really kill the Podcast market for new material that has interested many people since Podcasting first came out. Those people who once made small Podcasts to inform others for free or to talk about a subject of interest will no longer be able to do so. It will take away from the free market of Podcasts available. Right now one could go and download more than thousands of Podcasts in any genre they were interested in. soon that will be a thing of the past if large Search Engine companies decide to go with the Pay-Per-View method.

Pay-Per-View Podcasting that involves the viewer to pay will never work. No one would want to pay to learn about a product or service when they can search the Internet for free. Not to mention the millions of other Podcasts that people really do not need to see or hear if they are not free to everyone. That has been the greatest thing about Podcasting it is free and fun. If it going to start costing people money then the Podcasting feature will not be used as much if at all. This could seriously affect sales of iPod in the future. People would not want to spend hundreds of dollars on an iPod they could not use fully unless they were willing to spend more money for the media. No matter what way Pay-Per-View Podcasting goes it will produce a considerable drop in the number and types of Podcasts available to the public. The importance of SEO in marketing is known and the large search engines make money off these marketers. As for the rest of the people who pay to have Internet service they would not want to have to pay more to browse the Internet. The Search Engine companies already make enough money and do not need to attack viewer and Podcast producers with spending more money or not being able to utilize a feature component of their iPods.
