Wireless Audio

When I had my first audio system, everything was simple. Back then, there were only two formats: records and tapes. Most people got by with a boombox, but if you wanted to be high tech you got separate speakers, a receiver, a record player, and a tape deck. When I was in college, I had the works and I thought that I was all that. There was what looked to be a maze of cords running in and out, but I had a handle on it.

That was a long time ago. Nowadays, I have so many audio and video devices that I can hardly keep track of them all. I have an old tape player and record player for my older music, a CD player, an iPod, a computer, a receiver, and all the rest of it. I have a subscription to HDTV with surround sound speakers. When I think about it, my high tech gear is probably worth more than my apartment! Yet until you recently, I couldn't use almost any of it. Without the wireless audio, there was no way to connect things. I still had my standard computer speakers – the teeny ones that came with the box – playing all my sound from my PC and my iPod. The surround sound only hooked up to the TV. The record player and tape just sat there in the corner.

 Historical Quote
Our friendships hurry to short and poor conclusions, because we have made them a texture of wine and dreams, instead of the tough fibre of the human heart. The laws of friendship are austere and eternal, of one web with the laws of nature and of morals.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Wireless audio video changed everything for me. You see, when they first came out, wireless transmitters were a luxury – something you didn't really need. You could do everything with cables, so why bother with buying more expensive audio transmitters? Nowadays, however, it just doesn't make sense to go without wireless audio. You see, there are so many things that play sound and video. You don't want to have to buy a separate set of speakers for everything, but running all those cables to one central receiver is a nightmare.

One of the greatest things about a wireless audio transmitter is that you can control the sound from anywhere in your house. If you live in a two room apartment like I do, this isn't a big deal, but for friends of mine who have actual houses, it really makes a difference. I have a friend who actually set up a wireless sound system where he could control which speakers played at any time from any place. That means that he could hear music just in the bedroom, just in the living room, or all over the house at once.
